SACRED MONEY

Starling Bank,  a digital only bank has taken a different angle on the ubiquitous credit card. Well it's more like a 90° angle and flipped the customary format from landscape to portrait and switched the personal details to the reverse.

As Mark Day, Starling’s art director points out. ‘Bankcards don’t look the way they do by accident. They were designed landscape because of the way old card machines worked, and they’re embossed with raised numbers so they could be printed onto a sales voucher’. The new portrait format is designed to align with the way people usually use their card to make payments.

Standard credit cards are in keeping with ISO/IEC 7810 Identification cards, which keep Physical characteristics to an international standard. Beyond the generic look of all ID-1 financial transaction cards, there is also an intriguing curiosity to do with the dimensions. Measuring 85.47mm x 53.92mm, Bankcards are just 1mm off phi's golden ratio 1:618!

It’s not clear if the Golden ratio design shape of the customary bankcards is accidental or not, but the size was originally a U.S banking industry standard. And the ID-1, size is almost exactly one sixteenth of a sheet of foolscap folio.

I just love Sacred Geometry proportions; it rocks, as does astrology.

As astrologer Patrick Watson from Big Fat Astro, revealed when Uranus moved into Taurus (16th May 2018)— we might expect to see a few recurrent themes to do with Currency or Crypto currency (digital currency) more accurately speaking. Uranus represents revolution and change, new ways of doing things (like flipping the ubiquitous format of the card) and it also represents innovation and technology to boot, while Taurus is synonymous with material value i.e. currency!
