2026 The Year of the Fire Horse 丙午

This part 1 of 4. Read Part 2 here

Aesop pontificated if it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. This year tests the probability. We’ve reached a zenith, an interlude — before crossing the Rubicon.

WORDS WENDY GRANT | FENG SHUI ISM

Fully awake, serpent hands over its light. At the Yin Yang point of powerful illumination, Horse, the Solar Pacemaker, takes the reigns initiating warp speed ahead. Star Trek sets the scene while Vangelis’s score for Chariots of Fire echoes the soundtrack — the great unknown beckons.?

The crux of 2026 is Horse’s heavenly companion Bing, duplicating fire’s power. Add in an Age 9 fire cycle, then an astrological fire trine on 17 February that coincides with Lunar New Year, all under a ring of fire solar eclipse. Racking up five fire signatures is quite the omen! Horse normally brings some zesty pizzazz to town, but this year carries a caveat: when it’s good it’s very, very good and when it’s bad, it’s horrid. The eclipse underscores this.

To paraphrase Carl Sagan, to know the past is to understand the future. Yang Fire and Horse last ponied up in 1966, producing the Soviet Luna 9 moon landing, Australia’s decimalisation, the Beatles’ Revolver album (McCartney is a triple horse), Star Trek, UFO chatter, Ketamine (horse tranquilizer), the Pine Gap Treaty and no Nobel Peace prize recipient. Other legacies across the 180-year cycle metrics brought significant natural disasters prefixed by Great, Biggest and Worst. Supremacy races saw Pope Pius IX, on June solstice 1846, a three-horse day, begin the longest papacy in the Catholic Church, plus the Mexico/US war in the same year. 1066 brought the Battle of Hastings. While an ominous 1006 Supernova forebode the collapse of the Shang Dynasty to the longest spanning Zhou Dynasty. The archetype jumps the next hurdle.

Power, stamina and supreme yang are symbolic of the Horse. Bing correlates to the colour red, blood, actual fire and weaponry. Combined, the inferno pillar forms an aggressive warhorse: it’s the grit to maintain bloodlines, bravery to draw battlelines and the will to cross the Red Line (DEFCON adopted ’66). Armies, guards, socialism, political parties and revolutions are ubiquitously associated with red. Under two identical fire pillars, Red Guard Week began during the Cultural Revolution. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine also fell on the same day pillar. Equally symbolic, King Edward VIII, a double horse native, abdicated from a supreme position of power.

Politics is Horse’s playground. Geopolitical crossfire cues superpower reshuffles and a changing of the guard. Tigers, Dogs and Goats are Horse’s allies — befriend them. Be it lust, love or war, hearts pound (fire organ). Horse is a Peach Blossom star — code for Cupid’s bow. Screen siren Kathleen Turner, a 1966 triple Horse voiced her peach blossom star as femme fatale Jessica Rabbit. Folks with Snake, Rooster or Ox in their charts saddle up, romantic interludes beckon. Be warned, infidelity lures (broken hearts). Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. Horse natives face relationship tests (platonic and partnered); double calamities when rodents roam. Fire is akin to beauty and radiance when teamed with fame and celebrity status (fire themes) it spawned supermodels in 1990. Social jaunts Eastward are enchanted.

Horse and speed are wedded. Add perspiration, Adrenalin (synthesised, 1906), vigour and euphoria and you’ve bottled fire — as Sporting fever. A thirst for firsts saw Farina (fire horse native), win the first ever Formula One and Dawn Fraser acing in Fire Horse Luck Pillar. Less fortunate for 1906, medals for elite athletes in the Intercalated Olympics went unrecognised. Be it codes of conduct snafus, climate impacts or the Olympic flames, the 2026 games seem fated. Self-penalising for horse natives. Sport expresses fire’s lighter side, winning the hearts, minds and souls of nations — England still dines on its 1966 World Cup victory. In 2026, a competitive games calendar awaits. (check outs already transpired in Q1 sports prediction post.

If sport doesn’t spark joy, then there’s space, nuclear or tech and comms races. At peak yang, the pull toward yin begins; from deep outer space Neptune and Pluto (ninth planet for a time) were discovered on horse’s watch. Gen X began in 1966, the first generation exposed to digital tech, superseded by Gen Beta; now testing overexposure. Fire is energetic and futuristic; its forte is to outshine, even upstaging itself; think nuclear fusion (artificial suns) replacing sunrays and electricity for flames. The world’s first nuclear power station opened and the world’s biggest station closed in horse years. Human intelligence versus AI, another folly of equines. Fire needs a host to cling to; humans’ data fuels AI’s insatiable appetite. It’s time to replace the fuel source or the Human race risks being outshone and upstaged.

Horse is haphazard with finances, pivoting between in the red to off the charts. The behaviour of flames is mirrored in stock market candlestick graphs. Risky hedge funds entered financial lexicons in 1966. Fire-related industries face strong competition in the public eye: Adrenalin fueled sales but short-changed at year’s end. Tariff -trading wars reinforce the need for supply chain allies — Oxen, Rats and Pigs do dubious deals.

All things fire, man-made and natural, reignite global warming chatter . The fossil fuel crisis renews pressure on renewable energy supplies — combust transmission lines are choke points. The essence of Horse is solar. Kerosene, oil drilling and two major colliery disasters all follow the archetypes signature and London’s Great fire in 1666. On the flip side, floods feature in the first half of year; summer is peak fruition, maybe even oversupply. Snake put us on notice as heat waves bring severe drought by year’s end. Fire ants march on (maybe mice too). The trailblazer’s next chapter begins.

WHAT SIGN AM I? Each animal sign has five element variations. Your exact year of birth pillar returns at 60 — pinged every 12 years. Chinese Solar New Year is used to calculate your Zodiacal sign. If born between Jan 1—Feb 4, you’re the previous sign. Note: Feb. date also varies by a day or so.

2026 Personal Boons

(See asterisked * years)
Switching from Landscape to Portrait — a beneficial boon for natives with Heavenly Yin Metal daymaster (Xin) or born in years ending in ‘1’ you’ll feel blessed. Bounties are possible for folks with Yang Metal (Geng) stems in their chart or born in year ending in ‘0’.

子 RAT 1948, 1960*, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020*

  • Your cardinal hand is up, in polarity poker. Amid the thermodynamics you’re blessed with a star of clarity; channel it, especially when things runs hot. Career and business benefit from cosmic counsel, lap it up as cosmic headwinds show up in equal measure impeding progress. Double down on luxury spends; squirrel away as expenses leave reserves drained dry — wise folk reframe, redirecting dollars to benefit themselves. Relationships hover at boiling point; squabbles, tears, peppered with short fuses – defuse and you’ll unlock harmony and all manner of blessings. ’72 rodents clash, thread carefully.

    N2: 352.5° – 7.5°

丑 OX 1949, 1961*, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021*

  • Hopefully you’re unscathed by Snake’s skirmish. This year horse’s dandy exuberance may siphon your vitality, leaving you withdrawn. Here’s the secret, it’s you who unnerves Horse; reframe. Be it health hiccups, work woes or general lag — you’ll have three prized and fortuitous stars to shield you from adversities. But, remain risk averse or hubris hinders you capitalizing on said gifts. It’s time to unleash last year’s newfound skills as former problems dissolve, with influencer status yours for the taking. Lofty leadership goals are ticked. The seal of approval in turn boosts income.

    NE1: 22.5° – 37.5°

寅 TIGER 1950*, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010*, 2022

  • Balance and stability returns, as snake’s tailspin subsides. The scales still feel weighted. Horse welcomes you and a canine friend to the fold. Your welcome gift is recognition — you’re seen, so make it count. Kudos may come from afar – a stagecoach awaits; the destination pending. Refrain from playing the ponies - you’re no jockey and accidents happen, including betting blues. It’s a think twice act once kinda vibe, involving deaf ears and blind eyes. Warranty up while you’re at it, as pesky property setbacks could show up. The love stakes see fleeting encounters; just know it soon fades.

    NE3: 52.5° – 67.5°

卯 RABBIT 1951*, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011*, 2023

  • Snake forced you to lean on mates to survive and thrive; this year is akin to a golden gift horse – so don’t look boons in the mouth. Delivering a triple dose of fortune and an uptick in abundance opportunities – including asset acquisitions. There are caveat clauses - ‘use it or lose it’. Be aware of a smattering of spanners in the works; legal tussles and quarrelsome miscommunication could undo. And if you’ve got the stamina, your social diary delivers passion, romance and celebrations. You’re hot to trot! 1963 bucks may settle down.

    E2: 82.5° – 97.5°

⾠ DRAGON 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000*, 2012, 2024

  • Your yang counterpart Horse outranks you. Even so, you’re invited to sit at the table in turn boosting social ranking. You feel seen and on the radar again. Welcome news after a prolonged spell of isolation, which could continue if you give into persistent wallowing. Behind the façade, you may juggle some personal setbacks – you’re accident prone and a sad event may leave you offering condolences. Rest assured there’s a double serve of balmy relief to pick up the slack, smooth out kinks and solve the problem. Next year brings gains.

    SE1: 112.5° – 127.5°

巳 SNAKE 1941*, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001*, 2013, 2025

  • Dethroned, but still recognized by the cardinal. Don’t lose your momentum— build on last year’s progress, there’s still opportunity to elevate your end game. Academic ambitions are spot lit. Buttoning down a legal niggle could be tricky, as radio silence obscures progress, dragging out the issue. That said a mate might step up and ease a financially related burden. The wheels may have come off health goals last year; it’s time to address the spin out and practice self-care. Good news if your version of R&R equates to soulfood; cosmic cuisine features.

    SE3: 142.5° – 157.5°

午 HORSE 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990*, 2002, 2014, 2026

  • You’re back in the saddle, for the Grand Duke Derby. There are wins to be had, but the plus column is lean. A victory lap comes with power plays - now pick up the reigns and lead. Beware of burnout. Talent recognition sees promotion as your ticket to riches. Be wise and pony up with Dogs and Tigers they’ll help bolster your investments. This year also brings lingering self-doubt, which can be your own undoing. Don’t over commit and curb impatience. Relationship resilience is tested and a hidden health hiccup shows up.

    S2: 172.5° – 187.5°

未 GOAT 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991*, 2003, 2015

  • You felt short changed last year; now benevolence beckons as you forge a charming alliance with your celestial neighbour the Horse. Snakes stamina test is behind you. Now’s the time to break free of those who begrudge, or frenemies who show you disdain. Lucky you, your bingo card displays just the script. Cosmic VitD, the benevolent sun star shines bright upon you; a male mentor shows up. Your injection of luminescence prepping you for next year’s leading role. Wealth opportunities show up; when you show up. Romance bounces back; a golden balm soothes.

    SW1: 202.5° – 217.5°

申 MONKEY 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980*, 1992, 2004, 2016

  • Navigating Snake’s tenure was both punishing and volatile. This year’s Tai Sui (Horse) nourishes your philosophical bias — your Einstein opportunity arrives. With an appetite for knowledge, upskilling could be pivotal as horse dangles a work relocation package. But there’s a caveat; you’ll need to travel to cash in your career chips. The carrot may even involve an overseas posting. Decisions leave you on edge; remember to fact check legal fine print. A possible second rodeo leading a hermitic lifestyle; mingle more. Social opportunities show up. Check in with seniors.

    SW3: 232.5° – 247.5°

酉 ROOSTER 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981*, 1993, 2005, 2017

  • A cardinal cousin is a kingpin – bestowing gifts of supreme support. Kick-start the year with a big picture review, crunch the numbers, plug the leaks and reset life goals. Don’t be rash with cash; the road to riches lies in wielding the groundswell of mentors and guides that show up. Lean into a blessed female figurehead for guidance. If you’ve denied feeding your spiritual soul then this year forces the point. Singles you’ll mingle but partnered folks may double deal. Keep your deception bifocals on a handy hook. R&R helps you reframe.

    W2: 262.5° – 277.5°

戌 DOG 1946, 1958, 1970*, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

  • A cosmic trinity sees canines in the IT group, an opening act on LNY. Your street credit ramps up and a welcome confidence boost sees you resurrect a former ambition. Unleash your creative superpowers into the talent pool — remembering to milk your sphere of influence and anchor down networks. You’ve got the keys to the vault. On the flip side, lingering legal beefs leave you feeling jinxed, but cosmic relief steps in to dull the impact. Don’t let anxiety rent your headspace; as your emotional bandwidth maybe needed for grave news.

    NW1: 292.5° – 307.5°

亥 PIG 1947, 1959, 1971*, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

  • The dust settles as your year long face off with serpents’ ends. Reputations may be bruised but Horse offers an antidote, restoring balance. A beneficial transformation star shows up to melt and quell residual kinks n’ curveballs. Side hustles or alternative income streams pay dividends, buffering you especially if financial follies ballooned last year. Avoid the temptation to spend your newly minted notes, as material losses remain in sight. Make sure there’s fat in the budget for constitutional checks, red flags show up. Broody sows, the stork may delivery a genius!

    NW3: 322.5° – 337.5°

The Wheel of the Year

Depending on your persuasion, the wheel of the year is prefixed by many names — Celtic, Druid, Pagan or Wicca. The familiar graphic has near cult status, bedecking the walls, altars and journals of devotees of the cosmos. In more recent times the ubiquitous image has expanded and morphed into a mystical symbol shrouded in layers of occult, spiritual and religious mystery. Freed from the shackles of cultural and metaphysical associations the Eightfold wheel is more universally appropriate and immediately demystified as sun’s celestial journey mirrored via seasonal cycles.

Symbolism of Bats

Bats and Halloween have a ubiquitous relationship. It’s most likely due to the nocturnal habits of the bat, that link the two - after all Hallow’s Eve is a festival that’s celebrated at nightfall. Spookiness aside, the winged creature is known to conjure up high levels of anxiety, day or night, for folks with long hair! (Myth No. 1, they don’t get tangled in your tresses). That said, without doubt that humble Bat is steeped in myth, negative omens and superstitions. Yet in some cultures, the omen is of an auspicious nature.
