Last year’s rollercoaster ride eases as Wood Snake’s tenure commences on 29 January. Snake continues to do Dragon’s bidding donning the Little Dragon moniker, partnering with yin wood brings insights and adaptability. Serpent sits at the midpoint of Earthly Branches — the pendulum oscillates — destiny hangs in the balance. Will 2025 restore equilibrium, equate, renew, unify or play with fire?

Unpacking how history captured this duet is telling. The annual pillar union 乙巳 last collaborated in 1965; Baked into the social and political fabric of the time is the shedding of an earlier order, a course correction summed up as Counterculture. Wind this exact sexagenary cycle back even further reveals themes, decoding future probabilities. Iconic landmark theories, discoveries and breakthroughs transpired — Freud’s theories on sexuality, Einstein’s E=mc2, anaesthesia firsts, Newton’s gravitational theory aided by the Plague of London, the discovery of cells and the Great Writ 1305 — A prequel to the 2025 sequel.
What unites these ideas and ideals? Elemental friction. Fire is the child of wood; a metaphorical match offers momentary flashes into the future, a light bulb moment. Nuclear fusion another exothermic reaction. Wisdom (snake) and sight (wood) nods to intelligent points of view, fresh insights – brings ‘second sight’ or ‘cover ups’. Snake is tone deaf — but brings a sixth sense (includes AI). As snake stirs from brumation (word coined ‘65) the great pontificator sets its mind to reimagine and decode mysteries. Backed by a passion to restore stability the pangs to atone skewed social norms are reignited. As a ‘traveling star’ Snake slithering movement drives progress; yin wood navigates.
If you’ve waxed lyrical about the swinging 60’s (hello pendulum), the halcyon days return with — Sex, Drugs and Spies n’ Lies. Fear not Rock n’ Roll fiends, a muso is bound to mastermind a new genre; Hendrix, Watts and Dylan’s charts feature natal snakes, Beethoven had annual pillar match. If you’re showing up for the free love, rest assured Snake’s moshpit is heaving with charismatic seducers — Casanova himself was born under this annual archetype. Freud’s 1905 take on sexuality echo the theme. Serpents allure for sure but prone to philander. Biology 101 reveals serpents have pairs of copulatory organs! A Double Spring aka lunar leap year; typically sees nuptial surges just double check fidelity status.
Speaking of double dealers, the double helix and nuclein discovery aka the secret of life DNA was pinged twice on snake’s watch. Serpents also triggers double agent themes (intelligence correlation) — the Spies n’ Lies effect delivers stings, spooks, falsehoods, skeletons in closets, secret affairs, for your eyes only material; truthseekers, whistleblowers and artificial intelligence unveils.
Pills and bills pony up as part of the green reptile’s political repertoire. The ‘65 US Great Society program sought to equate racial injustices with sways of bills including Medicare and War on Poverty, policy mirrors today’s fiscal bind. Making ends meet and unifying is the ouroboros’ wheelhouse — also symbolic of the circle of life. The embryonic Snake glyph 巳 materialises as greater access to ‘the pill’. LSD was banned whilst SE Asia’s Golden Triangle pinged on cartels radar (snake directions and fire shape). Hosts of psychedelics tie into snake’s timelines; even e-cigarettes and historical warnings on cigarettes illustrate and buck the trend for greater scrutiny of drugs. Psychedelic-assisted therapy in a clinical setting may expand or branch out into newer heart and liver research (fire and wood organs). The Annual Flying star #2, focuses on Health topics, with strong correlations to women — Corona virus was discovered in ‘65, some astrology indicators point to swine flu.
Snake’s re-entry can be tough with the Plague, Vietnam warfare (Australia joined in ’65), Malcolm X assassination and 9/11 examples of former tenures. Rebellious reverberation sees huge political turbulence brew and battle lines drawn, nodding to economic fluctuations; 1929 brought the stock exchange crash. Emphasis on skilfully managed finances over risky bets, reaps better rewards. Annual Heavenly Stem 乙 may leave Yang Wood Daymasters feeling the pinch. Career currency favours Water and Metal related industries or professions.
This year’s lo shu chart reiterating the symbolic Doomsday clock. Chinese Mother Earth Nuwa, a primordial serpent being, lends her voice — expressing her sickness, amplifying the inflammatory nature of the situation and catastrophic outcomes. Volcanoes wake from hibernation as smoke plumes forewarn. Rains become more moderate. The annual pillar is armed with kindling – expect dry, barren, tinderbox conditions bringing smoldering spot fires sparked by lightning. Famine also features. The repercussions of avian flu reverberate; less birds mean more insects, as the main predator declines, locusts dine freely. Early and fruitful yields, but the pillar lacks water to sustain. The ghosts of Snake’s poison haunts; herbicide warfare saw defoliants wither crops under serpents’ stewardship (’53 and ’65). Earth’s fertility is underscored by ecocide themes. Snake is a keeper of records; Tasmania’s Earth Black Box will soon digitally record climate changes.
