2024 WEATHER PREDICTIONS

The aftermath of last weeks Cyclone Kirrily is omnipresent; as I write folks in QLD, Australia are bracing as a third cyclone looms! Following my retrospective of 2023 Weather predictions; I’m sharing some 2024 weather prophecies and another weather metric — Dragon’s role.

THE ANCIENT’S BAROMETER

But first, a mention of an under valued recurrent weather metric used by Chinese Agriculturists since the Zhou Dynasty during Duke of Zhou’s reign from 1042–1035 BC. The UNESCO recognized 24 Solar terms /Seasonal Nodes as ‘a traditional knowledge system of time that enjoys thousands of years of intergenerational transmission, the 24 Solar Terms clearly embodies the concepts of respect for nature, and harmony between man and nature, that’s guided farmers knowledge of seasonal pheonlogy’.

A gnomon used to measure Solar terms.

Solar terms operate in reverse fashion in the Southern Hemisphere, with the opposing two week long solar term of “Dashu 大暑’; the 12th term referred to as 'Major Heat' the hottest part of the year. In fact it’s further subdivision of the ‘24 Solar Terms’ called the ‘72 Material Manifestations’ (wuhou) that sheds the greatest insights. These pentad divisions cover the 12th term;

  1. Decaying Grass Transforms Into Fire Flies (Fucao hua wei ying).

  2. The Earth Lies Wet Beneath Sweltering Heat (Tu run ru shu)

  3. Heavy Rain Falls Intermittently (Dayu shixing)

The third wuhou draws to a close in two days time — I’d say that’s pretty on point even when reversed for S.H; with ‘intermittently’ over time subjected to the influence of climate change — something not presently factored into the ancient annals of 24 Solar Terms, which have stood the test of time for quiet some time.

In essence Solar Terms are weather benchmarks. If amended today they most certainly would have additions, due to climate change. Noting Chinese seasons commence 1½ months before the comparative seasons in the Western Calendar; even during my time of following and writing about solar terms since 2016, I’ve seen this seasonal knowledge creep and sync with western seasons.

DRAGON METRICS

Solar Terms are the recurrent anticipated seasonal observations. Decoding the fine tuning tools to differentiate year-on-year are also contained in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Aside from entering a Dragon governed year in 2024, the celestial reptilian is a sky and rain deity venerated by agriculturalists. The omnipresent New Year Dragon dances are rooted in weather related veneration, however farming folk pay specific homage to the Dragon on a specific date. Farmers’ actual petitions depended upon annual weather predictions. So regardless of governing animal, Dragon is always analyzed.

Fecund harvests bolster a comfortable survival, triggering the metric for ‘abundance’, which moonlights as a ‘wealth’ proxy. Indeed food was a bartered currency, but the concept of ‘abundance’ and it’s true meaning is experiencing a reconnaissance. Wild weather leaves barren fields in its wake — and be it farmer or not — we’re all materially touched by bare supermarket shelves with inflated premiums on what makes it to market. Self sufficiency and food is the abundance benchmark.

2023 Spring Ox and Cowherd almanac pic

The agriculturalist’s bible is the Chinese Tong Shu (Almanac), oft called the Farmers’ calendar with weather omens presented via a visual depiction of the ‘Spring Ox and Cowherd’. Last year’s Cowherd was depicted hatless— it forebode very hot weather, as discussed in previous Insta posts.

As the Almanac was not even printed back when I was writing my Annual prediction for 2024; I used the source metric, decoded in the Almanac daily pillars – Dragon is but one such barometer. The skylord beast is a water bearer, capable of delivering drizzle or deluges. If Dragon forebode drought then agricultural veneration favoured more rain — If Dragon was destructive; preventing harvest woes saw petitions for less floods.

2024 INSIGHTS

My 2024 forecast indicators reveal plentiful precipitation with flooding very likely; the first half of year. Extreme heats add the cocktail ingredient for humidity highs (and mosquitoes). Other coded visual cues indicate bountiful produce, especially crops heavily reliant on abundant waters. Productive harvest yields, if gathered pre floods, but generally poorer grain crops. Expect to fork out a premium for livestock. While overall produce is plentiful, Dragon’s fetish for extremes plays into climate change.

Although I’ve not mentioned Cyclones specific, this wild weather is a cocktail of wind and water element - denoted by #4 and #1 digits.  Both these elements were activated in 2023 themes. In 2024 Dragons’ penchant for taking things to extremes is heavily spotlight in Dragon’s lair of SE; in turn lighting up the SE/NW axis. Noting also that Australia is geographically positioned both in the Southern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth; located on S latitude and E longitudes.

We’ve seen the SE of QLD lit up with Cyclone Kirrily and the next cyclone is said to hit NW — Both these sector have the #4 dragon/wind signature! If monthly FS chart is superimposed, this further emphasizes Dragon’s power!

We enter a MAJOR new elemental shift from 4 February 2024. ‘Earth’ element hands the baton to ‘Fire’ — the new governing element for the next 20 years, and the code red for climate chaos.

2024 happens to also be the year of the Azure Dragon; the most venerated of Dragon in agricultural circles. Solar Dragon year begin on 4 feb 2024. Are you ready for Dragon year?
