We’re in the closing days of Dog Month and the last *wu hou manifestation of the 18th Solar term is also coming to an end. It provides not only an ancient reminder but a visual one of the implications of this Material Manifestation.
The final five day (wu hou) increment of the current solar term translates to ‘Hibernating Insects Stop Up Their Burrows’. To some folk this may seem like trivia. But feng shui forefathers knew that observation of their environment garners multiple layers of info.
Sure a school lesson may have reaped knowledge that ladybirds, beetles, flies, butterflies, wasps and ants…. all hibernate. And girl guides may have highlighted the merits of not pitching your tent on an ant’s nest. But by digging a little deeper, both pieces of info are very relevant indicators of how your health and well being could fair in the future.
So did you know in the case of wasps, with the onset of winter the freezing temperature will kill all but queen wasps; who seek shelter and hibernates for the winter. The queen’s choose their nesting site and craft their own nest in spring. But did you known the site of the nest isn’t a random free eave of a home?
Wasps’ like some other insects, are attracted to build their nests above geopathic stress lines. So, the paper nests are an indicator of geopathic stress in your dwelling/property boundary. They are often built under the verandahs, eaves of homes, sheds etc. And the ants were residents before you decided to pitch a tent or on a more permanent level, decided to build your new home on a site. Girl guide’s might have been highlighting the woes of ant stings, but from a geopathic stress perspective - your quality of sleep won’t be great either, even if you did escape an ant sting. Geopathic stress lines need identifying before you build preferably; the ants won’t move their residence unless there’s a new geopathic hub to move onto.
Regardless of hemisphere - new wasps nest are appearing with the establishment of Spring, or a former nest is a visual indicator to consider whether your home is in need of a Geomancy assessment. Of course these are not the only cues a consultant looks for but it’s one a home occupier usually notices first.
We offer on site Geopathic consultation audits if you’re experiencing problems with sleep patterns and children unsettled. And it’s highly desirable before you move in to a new property or pre building a new home. In almost every home no matter its scale, manmade EMF’s pose a real problem to occupants health and wellbeing. Especially in apartments and close proximity dwellings are especially susceptible to this with people sleeping in electromagnetic smog from their neighbours output. We highlight EMF fields separately and advise on ways to reduce your own field and best practices when using technology collectively in the home.
Curious to find out more, have a read of naturally occurring geopathic stress and manmade EMF’s.

* Reader’s Note : The Asian almanac system subdivides the Seasonal terms into more detailed increments of time, known as 72 Material Manifestations (wuhou). They are a nod to *phenological cues that indicate a season is gaining ground. The Ancient Chinese knew nothing of the Southern Hemisphere when making their astrological calculations. Regardless of your domicile, please note ‘FENG SHUI ‘ and ‘CHINESE MONTH’ and ‘ZODIACAL ANIMAL’ observations remain unchanged. However, anyone experiencing the opposite season in an opposing Hemisphere, for its cultural customs , gardening, dietary suggestions and climate cues. I’m of the opinion that the 24 solar terms are a ‘code of living’; assisting us in living in tandem with seasons and beating to our internal circadian rhythm.
** The relevance of the ancient Chinese Almanac and the 24 Solar Terms (or seasonal nodes, as they are sometimes referred to), were not only for agricultural purposes; individuals took cues from the Nodes and adopted various seasonal diets and exercise. Calculated via the sun's annual motion, they discern the year's change in season by way of phenology, climate and the tilt of the sun varying shadow length on the ecliptic to decipher a season.
Phenology, is one of three methods used to decipher seasons - it uses the changes in plant and animal behaviour - such as animal migration, types of plants, and changes in colours in the landscape - to determine when the seasons begin. The Chinese seasons commence 1½ months before the comparative seasons in the Western Calendar. The 24 solar terms are used to insert leap (intercalary) months in the Chinese calendar to keep it in sync with seasons.
