FENG SHUI FOR HOMES

The space in which we live should enhance our living experience. The author Gaston Bachelord speaks of, ‘the poetics of space’, although he wasn’t a feng shui scholar he sums up the essence of an expanse very well. By optimising our environs, our place of dwelling and relaxation, should lift our spirits, be a safe haven, sustain us and offer respite. Or as a famous philosopher coined it -

Does your home feel like this?

When your dwelling has good Feng Shui it’s harmonized with nature’s bountiful energies and that of the built environment. How do you recognise it? Well it’s a collection of things but it's also a feeling, invisible forces if you will, that we have all previously felt. It’s a house that’s pleasing to the eye, that you just adore hanging out in – as do your friends, it’s homely and welcoming and it draws you in. It’s a sanctuary that oozes feel good vibes – the intangible energetic invisible life forces – known as Ch’i. But FORM and TIME are also fundamentally relevant.

Expensive house = good feng shui?

That’s a NO. Confusingly some people think that plush, expensive forms and structures offering real estate dreams of perpetual waterfront views are perfect Feng Shui, but such homes can often lack the guiding principles of this Eastern discipline. If you factor in the element of time, you can begin to see why a consultant is required. Not only are time cycles, years, months, phases and seasons all factored in, so too are – diurnal or nocturnal times of day. All this information combined, is why coffee table tombs or generic advice aren’t suitable for everyone home setting or indeed every occupant of the home. In fact, it can give very negative results.  At this point the Lucky red front door springs to mind.

Do I need a consult?

Feng Shui hones in on the unseen hidden energies within your dwelling, by tapping into the ebb and flow of Sheng and Sha Ch’i in the space. A consultant is often summoned when Sha (negative) Ch’i out ranks the good vibrations in a building/premises. This can manifest to occupants as bouts of turbulent times; be they health issues, fertility concerns, changes in a child’s behaviour, job losses, separations or cash flow crises. A consultant identifies the disharmony and offer solutions to restores the balance of yin and yang ch’i in the home.
